Sewage Treatment Plant

Product Details

A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is a facility designed to remove contaminants from domestic, commercial, or industrial wastewater (sewage) to produce environmentally safe treated effluent and solid waste (sludge). These plants play a crucial role in protecting public health and the environment by preventing pollution of water bodies and ensuring the reuse of treated water for non-potable purposes.

Description

A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) is a facility designed to treat and purify wastewater generated from homes, offices, hospitals, hotels, industries, and other establishments before it is discharged into the environment or reused. Sewage contains harmful substances such as organic waste, suspended solids, bacteria, viruses, oils, chemicals, and nutrients that can pollute water bodies and create serious health and environmental problems if released untreated. Sewage treatment plants play an important role in maintaining sanitation, protecting public health, conserving water resources, and reducing environmental pollution.

The main objective of a sewage treatment plant is to remove contaminants from wastewater and convert it into safe and reusable water. The treatment process involves several physical, biological, and chemical methods carried out in different stages.

The first stage of treatment is called preliminary treatment. In this stage, large solid materials such as plastic bags, cloth, sticks, paper, and debris are removed using bar screens and mechanical screens. Grit chambers are also used to remove sand, gravel, and heavy particles from sewage. This process protects pumps, pipelines, and other equipment from damage and blockage.

The second stage is known as primary treatment. In this process, wastewater is stored in sedimentation tanks where heavy suspended solids settle at the bottom as sludge, while lighter materials such as oil and grease float on the surface and are removed. This stage reduces the amount of suspended solids and organic matter in sewage.
